1. Introduction

Welcome to StoryDrift (“the App”), a children’s bedtime-story application developed by Virality Ltd (“we”, “us”, or “our”). StoryDrift generates interactive, AI-powered bedtime stories for children aged 4–10.

We are committed to protecting the privacy of all users, and in particular the privacy of children. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects (if any), how it is used, and your rights as a user or parent/guardian.

By downloading or using StoryDrift you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please uninstall the App and do not use it.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

StoryDrift does not require account registration. No name, email address, phone number, or other personally identifying information is requested from or stored about you or your child.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

The App does not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, or usage analytics on its own. However, the following third-party services may collect limited technical data as described in their own privacy policies:

Android OS diagnostics (e.g. crash reports) collected by Google LLC under the Google Play Privacy Policy.
Network request metadata (such as API response codes and latency) may be logged transiently by the Anthropic API when story content is generated. Anthropic’s data handling is governed by their Privacy Policy at https://www.anthropic.com/privacy.

2.3 Story Content Sent to the AI

When you tap “Begin Your Story”, the App sends a short, auto-generated text prompt to the Anthropic Claude API over HTTPS. This prompt contains:

A randomly selected story world, hero, and problem (e.g. “Enchanted Kingdom”, “Young Wizard”, “Lost a Magical Star”).
Any story-continuation choice the user taps (e.g. “Climb the tall Clock Tower.”).

These prompts contain no personal information about the child or the user. The resulting story text is displayed in the App and is not stored by us on any server.

2.4 Children’s Privacy (COPPA / GDPR-K)

StoryDrift is designed for use by children under 13 with parental supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. No user-facing data entry fields exist in the App. Because no personal data is collected by us, parental consent requirements under COPPA (US) and equivalent child-protection laws are satisfied by design.

If you believe that a child has inadvertently submitted personal information through any means, please contact us immediately at the address in Section 9.

3. How We Use Information

Because we collect no personal data ourselves, we have no personal data to use for marketing, profiling, or sale. The only data processing that occurs is:

Sending the AI prompt to the Anthropic Claude API to generate story text.
Displaying the returned story text on your device.

We do not use any data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose other than delivering the core story functionality.

4. Data Sharing & Disclosure

4.1 Third-Party Service: Anthropic

Story generation prompts are transmitted to Anthropic, PBC (San Francisco, CA, USA) via their API. Anthropic may process and store these prompts in accordance with their API Data Usage Policy. We recommend reviewing Anthropic’s privacy documentation before use in regulated environments.

4.2 We Do Not Sell Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade any user information to third parties.

4.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request (e.g. a court order or subpoena). Because we hold no personal data, any such disclosure would be limited to App metadata or technical logs not associated with individual users.

5. Data Storage & Security

StoryDrift does not maintain any back-end database or server-side storage of user data. All story sessions are ephemeral — once you close the App, the story text is not retained by us.

Network transmissions to the Anthropic API use industry-standard TLS encryption (HTTPS). The API key used to authenticate requests is embedded in the app and is not exposed to users.

6. Your Rights

6.1 EEA / UK Residents (GDPR / UK GDPR)

Right of access — We hold no personal data about you.
Right to erasure — There is nothing to erase from our systems.
Right to portability — Not applicable.
Right to object to processing — Uninstalling the App immediately stops all API calls.

6.2 California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. California residents may submit requests by contacting us (see Section 9); we will confirm that we hold no personal data about you.

6.3 All Users

You may stop all data processing by uninstalling the App. Anthropic’s data retention and deletion policies apply to the prompts transmitted via their API; please contact Anthropic directly for requests relating to that data.

7. Google Play Families Policy Compliance

StoryDrift is enrolled in the Google Play Families programme and is designed exclusively for children aged 4–10. We are fully committed to compliance with Google Play’s Families Policy requirements. This section outlines how the App meets each key requirement.

7.1 Target Audience

The App targets children aged 4–10 as its primary and sole audience. All content, language, and interactive elements are designed to be age-appropriate, warm, and imaginative. The App does not contain content suitable only for adults and is not a dual-audience application.

7.2 Content Appropriateness

All story content is generated by the Anthropic Claude AI model under strict prompt constraints. Our system prompt explicitly instructs the model to:

Use simple, vivid language appropriate for children aged 4–10
Maintain a warm, magical, and comforting tone at all times
Never produce content that is scary, violent, or inappropriate for young children
Limit story chapters to 120–160 words for age-appropriate attention spans

We regularly review AI-generated outputs to ensure ongoing compliance with these content standards.

7.3 Advertising

StoryDrift contains no advertising of any kind. We do not integrate any advertising SDKs, display banner or interstitial ads, or serve any promotional content within the App. This applies to both child-directed and general audiences.

7.4 Data Collection from Children

In compliance with the Families Policy and COPPA:

We do not collect personal information from children
We do not require account creation or login
We do not use persistent identifiers to track children across apps or websites
We do not share children’s data with third parties for advertising purposes
No microphone, camera, location, or contacts permissions are requested or used

7.5 In-App Purchases

StoryDrift does not contain any in-app purchases, premium upgrades, virtual currencies, or paid content of any kind. All features are available to all users at no cost.

7.6 Social Features

The App contains no social features. There is no user-generated content sharing, no chat or messaging functionality, no community features, and no links to external social media platforms.

7.7 Third-Party SDKs

The only third-party service integrated into StoryDrift is the Anthropic Claude API, used solely for generating story text. We have reviewed Anthropic’s policies and confirmed that:

The API is used exclusively for generating age-appropriate children’s story content
No child personal data is transmitted to Anthropic
The prompts sent contain only fictional story parameters (world, hero, problem, and story choices)
Anthropic’s API does not serve advertising or track users

All other dependencies are Google-maintained AndroidX and Jetpack Compose libraries, which are compliant with Families Policy requirements by design.

7.8 External Links

StoryDrift does not contain any links to external websites, app stores, social media profiles, or other applications. Children cannot navigate away from the App to any external content.

7.9 Parental Controls & Supervision

We recommend that parents and guardians supervise their child’s use of StoryDrift, particularly given that story content is AI-generated. While our prompt constraints are designed to ensure safe content, no AI system can guarantee outputs with absolute certainty in all cases. Parents are encouraged to read stories alongside their children.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document and publish the updated policy on the Google Play Store listing and, where required by law, notify you within the App.

Continued use of StoryDrift after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

9. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rights applicable in your country of residence.
